IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER

This painting is about the extreme endurance our wild critters must have to survive the winters here in Wyoming. When I'm sitting in a comfy, warm house, and the snow is deep and the temperature is 'way below zero, I never fail to think about what it's like for animals like this moose. I was working on this painting just before Christmas, and borrowed the title of the wonderful Christmas carol by Gustav Holst.
