Elk bulls will generally try to avoid a real fight, but when they come eye-to-eye, things can get very dangerous. They often tip their heads, showing their antlers to the prospective adversary before a fight begins; sometimes that's enough to end the contest. I put the leftmost bull in sunlight to focus attention on him. The model for the bull on the right actually hangs on the chimney in my studio.
