This was an illustration done many years ago for the cover of a national falconry magazine. The falconer has just cast off his goshawk as the pheasant rises from cover near the fence. Aldo Leopold called falconry "the perfect hobby", and he was absolutely correct - the finest way to experience nature's intimate balance of predator and prey.
