Jessie is one of the strays who have found Jolene's "Hound Hilton". She's a bit of a miracle: she developed a large, untreatable cancer tumor in her throat, and the vet gave her no more than a week to live. Jo decided she'd make it a special week, and started feeding her a very special diet. Days, then weeks went by, and she kept getting better and better. Long story short, it's now been four years since the tumor completely disappeared. Vet concedes it was truly a miracle.
