THE SELKIE

The selkie is an Irish legend - a seal which can shed its skin, and assume human form. Selkies are very attractive to humans, and can intermingle, even marry and propagate with them. The selkie will eventually return to the sea, but a human can trap them in human form if they can find and hide their seal skin. I placed this figure on the cool Irish coast, and gave her a look of apprehension as she assumes her unnatural human form. (There was a great movie, "The Secret of Roan Inish", about selkies, and it's always stuck in my memory.)
