This lone tree grows in a small creek bed outside of Swan Valley, Idaho. In the winter, the snow gets very deep, and covers everything but this little tree. We think of the lightest part of snow being the "top", but in fact it is often not the "top" - it is the surfaces which are more directly perpendicular to the direction of the light (sun). I wanted to capture that interesting effect in this painting, and to comment on the stubborness of this little tree in such trying conditions.
